Philippians 2:3-4 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
As a Christian, God wants us to be selfless. When Jesus called us to be his followers he gave us precepts to follow. They are not simple. If you are like me there are times when living for Christ is not easy and that is when we most take up our crosses and follow him. This week I was learning a great lesson. I had to understand what it means to love our neighbors as ourselves. This is not just words. Giving our time to those who are in need, and helping one another is very essential. I believe what we do for others please God. There’s a passage in the bible which is Matthew 25:35-40” For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
Reading this passage, I understand when we help others we are doing the will of our father in heaven. I also comprehend why we may have to put our needs in the backburner sometimes. I was very tired when one of my neighbor reached out to me for help. A part of me said go home and rest, another loud voice whispered you are sick yourself how can you be of a help. It was at that moment I had to remind myself that I also had my own moment of distress, and God dispatched his angels to my rescue. I also remembered days before I was praying to the lord asking him to use me for his glory. This was my moment to exercise and accept God’s assignment. I could not say not that way lord. God uses our circumstances too show his glory. I am on this earth for a purpose. God wants me to use every chance to represent his kingdom.
My illness is not a death sentence. I am now able to help and encourage others who are dealing with similar illness. Therefore, each time I am giving a chance to express my love towards others I seized the opportunity. Moving forward I have great news, my neighbor is doing much better. I am so happy to know that God is moving through his people. Each day you are giving a chance to show acts of kindness and it is up to you to recognize it.
